The Awash Falls Lodge, a natural bless! It is a must!!Awash Falls Lodge is endowed with the marvelous and fascinating natural settings. It is situated at the Southern tip of the Awash National Park, 215 km East of Addis Ababa by the main road to Harar. The Lodge is proud of providing:1. Efficient and humorous accommodation services;2. Liquor and beverage services;3. Fresh and delicious traditional and European food;4. Other basic services. Attractions & Activities by the Lodge Include: 1. Treks around the Lodge: You will wonder and appreciate nature to trek 2.5-3 km hike following the downstream and upstream of the Awash River. Here you will see Colobus and Vervet monkeys, Anubis baboons, Lesser kudus, Warthogs, Ostriches, Crocodiles, Monitor lizards, different terrestrial and riverine birds, and others;2. Awash River Falls: In front of the Lodge is the Awash Falls, which is high and wide at the head of the impressive Awash Gorge. The falls have been described as "a scale-down version of Victoria Falls";3. Hiking Mt. Fentale: Situated at the Northern side of Awash National Park, Mt. Fentale tower majestically over the surrounding low land with 2007 m in height a.s.l. The crater on top is 3x3.5 km in diameter and has a panoramic view and one can see water vapor out of the vents;4. Ilala Sala Plain:- The Ilala Sala Plain is the Southern part of the park where game drive is a must, is really impressive to be there at early morning when the sun rises and late afternoon while the sun set is experiencing the herds of animals like Beisa Oryx, Soemmerring's Gazelle, Lesser Kudu, Anubic Baboon, Salt's di-dik, Common Warthogs, Bat-eared Foxes and Jackals and Abyssinian Hare;5. Avian Diversity: - Awash is the richest national park in Ethiopia with more than 473 species of birds. The diversity in habitats, both aquatic (Metehar/Beseka Lake, Fil wuha Hot Spring and Awash River) and terrestrial are convenient for watching and studying a variety of migrant and resident birds;6. Crocodiles: - Of the 40 plus species of reptiles, in the Park, the most likely to encounter are Nile Crocodiles, Monitor Lizards and Leopard Tortoise. These are commonly seen basking and foraging nearby the Lodge;7. The Filwuha Hot Springs: - Located at the Northern border of the Park, (41 km apart from the Lodge) at the base of the Fentale cliffs is the fascinating Filwuha Hot Springs. It is one of the marvelous and fascinating natural setting in which tourists like to swim in 50 degree centigrade hot water;8. Metehara/Beseka Lake:- Tourists appreciate the unique setting of the black lava rock that was also spilled out from the nearby dormant Fentale Crater about 200 years ago;9. Hyena Cave: - There is no night spectacle more dramatic than the Hyena of Fentale. You will see hyenas up to 50 or more coming out of their caves at dusk yelling into the night. It is about 27 km from the Lodge to the base of Mt. Fentale in the North. Now, the Lodge is pleased to inform visitors that a trip can be arranged to watch the many hyenas coming out of the caves each evening;10. Camping Sites: - There are various sites which are pleasant and quite convenient for camping overnight at Awash NP. Four sites are under the riverine forest of Awash River (nearby the Head Office of the Park) and others are on top of Mt. Fentale at the hot springs accompanied by the Palm Oasis, and in the Awash Falls Lodge compound. Camping visitors should be self-contained when they are outside the Lodge;11. Cultural Show:- The Lodge in collaboration with the Park and Fentale District Culture and Tourism Office has started to organize cultural songs and dancing of the Kereyu community in the Lodge's compound;12. Boat Sailing: - The Awash Falls Lodge has two boats with the capacity of three and five persons in which guests can use to cool themselves under the falls any time of the day. It is also possible to drive for about 2 km above the water falls; 13. Amazing Volcanic Crack:- Here, tourists can observe a volcanic crack that stretches from Lake Beseka to the base of Mt. Fentale that ranges for about 6-7 km. The crack is as deep as 60 meters and occasionally visitors can see Rock hyrax, thousands of Bats, Sparrow larks Mocking cliff-chat, Sombre rock-chat, Red and Yellow barber. The hyenas' dens are connected with the cracks which are always seen peeing out in the late evening. The very surprising thing and probably amazing thing that tourists have never experienced so far is to observe herbivorous animals like wild pigs coming out from the cave in the late evening flocking together with the hyenas. This can be taken as visitors' reward of visiting the volcanic crack and indulging oneself with admiration of nature in which it balances itself. So, you are cordially invited to visit the Awash Falls Lodge soon! You will admire nature! The Awash Falls Lodge Administration.

simien mountain trek part 1/3 - Ethiopian Tourism

The Simien Mountains Massif is home to the highest point in Ethiopia, and the 4th highest ponit in Africa, Ras Dejen (4620m). The park has spectacular views and a large variety of wildlife, including baboons, ibexes, Ethiopian wolves and birds of prey such as the rare lammergeyer, vultures and eagles. The park is made up of a rocky massif, which slopes down to grasslands - the massif is cut by streams and gorges. The national park has three general botanical regions. The lower slopes have been cultivated and grazed, while the alpine regions (up to 3600m) are forested. The higher lands are mountain grasslands with fescue grasses as well as heathers, splendid Red Hot Pokers and Giant Lobelia. The park was created primarily to protect the Walia Ibex, a type of wild goat, and over 1000 are said to live in the park. Also in the park are families of the Gelada Baboon and the rare Simien fox. The Simien fox, although named after the mountains, is rarely seen by the visitor. Over 50 species of birds have been reported in the Simien mountains On day one of the trek in the Simien Mountains, starting at Sankabar camp we walk to Geech camp via the Jinbar Falls. the walk is about 13km starting at 3400m and finishing at 3600m, todays route takes us pass the Jinbar falls, over the Jinbar river and through Geech Village, the only Muslim village in the area.
