House of Peoples Representatives (HPR) Speaker Abadulla Gemeda said some international media are disseminating baseless information against villagization program underway in Gambella State. While discussing with Co-chair of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly European Parliament there on Tuesday the speaker said the government is carrying out the program with active participation and will of the local people. However, he said ill-fated report released by the Human Right Watch is against the reality as there is no forcible displacement of people in the area. The speaker said there in no need of displacing people from their land since Ethiopia is endowed with ample arable land. Abadulla said government is looking for more investors to engage in the agriculture sector. The speaker said social facilities in the villagization site have been installed. Co-chair of the joint parliamentary Assembly European Parliament Lewis Michel told journalists that the cooperation between Ethiopia and European Parliament Assembly is on the right track. He said the European parliament would extend its support to Ethiopia in addressing issues posed in the horn of Africa. The Co-chair lauded the key role played by the Ethiopian government to ensure peace and stability in the region He said he had constructive discussion with the speaker as to how closely works on mutual concerns as well as on regional and international issues.
